Be fair

Pornopedia makes every attempt to be fair in articles.

Being "fair" does not necessarily mean being "nice". We have a mission to make (among other things) a reliable and complete pornography guide.

We need to call a spade a spade; if a site sucks, tell everyone else. If the content is crap, we need to say so. If the video quality is poor or ugly, annoying, or not worth the effort, we need to say so.

If another user disagrees, the description should be edited until both sides agree that the description is fair.

However, being "fair" doesn't mean using bland, vapid, or timid prose. Users should feel free – nay, obligated – to use lively descriptions that paint a clear, concise picture of the subject in question.

The idea of "being fair" is this: We don't have any agenda on Pornopedia and neither should any user. We are not advocating any site, genre or type of content.

Our agenda on Pornopedia is to achieve our Goals and non-goals|goal to make a really, really, really good pornography guide that's useful and readable for users worldwide.

Neutral point of view

Contributors who are used to Wikipedia should remember that our rule to be fair is different from the Wikipedia neutral point of view. In particular, we encourage lively, descriptive writing, and if there is a conflict between, say, the perspective of travelers and the perspective of a business owner, the user comes first

The mission of Pornopedia is this:

Pornopedia is a project to create a free, complete, up-to-date, and reliable world-wide guide to pornography.

Pornopedia articles should be useful for at least the following purposes:

• For finding good content, late-night while surfing the web;
• For finding honest reviews, not some hyped up advertising link gallery;
• For locating free porn for those who prefer to remain discrete;
• For individual site / performer / movie information, no boring general info;

There are probably hundreds of other uses for Pornopedia articles; these are ones we try to keep in mind while authoring and editing pages.

Non-Goals

These are some specific non-goals; things people might think we want to do with Pornopedia, but we don't:

1. Create a site with adult content. Pornopedia is not a porn site.
2. Create a new place for adult advertisements. Pornopedia is not an advertising driven site.
3. Create corporate promotions. The reviews here are from users, to users.
4. Provide more search engine spam. Every page should be relevant, meaningful and useful.
5. Provide a personal homepage or dating service. This is not a social network for user profile pages.
6. Create a chat board. There are plenty of Web-based and email discussion groups on the Internet, where people can talk about their experiences, ask questions, complain, make friends and joke around. Pornopedia has talk pages for each article, but these should be used to develop the article itself, and not as a "comments" area. Anyone can edit a Pornopedia article; if you have useful information about a topic, put it in the article itself.
7. Make an encyclopedia. Pornopedia aims to tell people exclusively about online porn and porn sites. If you find yourself needing references and footnotes on Pornopedia, whatever you're writing should probably go to Wikipedia instead.

There are probably lots of other near-miss goals that people might think we have; if needed, we'll list those here, too.
